Helen German McAbee, 94, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 after a brief illness. After 21 years of service, she retired from Bradley Memorial Hospital. Helen was a people person and especially loved children. She loved the mountains, dancing, going to country music shows and she cooked for several country music stars.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Maggie German; husband, Clyde McAbee; sisters, Bertha Waters, Maxine Rucker, Nancy Cowart, Charlotte Cook; brothers, Ed, Hobert, Hoyt, Norman, Jr. German.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ed Howard; son, Jimmy McAbee and Mary Calfee; brothers, J.W. (Dub), Charles, and Bob German; grandchildren, Stan and Revonda Howard, Sue Ann and John Patterson, Kendra and Chris Johnson, Tim McAbee, Tracy and Amy McAbee; great grandchildren, Matt and Alicca Goforth, Matt and Jennifer Ray, Sydney and Sadie McAbee, Madison and Olivia Johnson, Kayla Sadler, Chaz McDonald, Lauren Reagan, Amanda and Derrick Furlow, Jennica and Brandon Opperman; great-great grandchildren, Kennedy, Cooper and Cora Goforth, Maddox Ray, Braxton Reagan, Aubrey, Jonathan and Natalie Clements. The surviving family, friends and acquaintances will cherish the memories of “Nanny” Helen for a lifetime.
The family would also like to recognize her dedicated and loving caregiver, Mildred Wilson.
Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Ross officiating. Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2018 in Benton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Higgins Funeral Home prior to the service.
Pallbearers are Stan Howard, Chris Johnson, John Patterson, Tim McAbee, Tracy McAbee and Matt Ray. Honorary pallbearers are Matt Goforth and Chaz McDonald.
