Thomas A. Guthrie, 86, a resident of Benton, TN passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017 at his home. Tommy loved to farm. He was a faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, a member of Ocoee Lodge 212 and retired from Bowater where he served on the Board of Directors of the Bowater Credit Union. He was known as the “knife trader”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; James A. and Bernham Kibble Guthrie; sister, Mildred Albritton.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Bob Cronan Guthrie; daughters, Pam (Bill) Ellis, Brenda (Randy) Elder; brothers, Frank (Reba) Guthrie, Darrell (Judy) Guthrie; brother-in-law, Paul Albritton; grandchildren, Kevin (Renee) Bishop, Lori (Tommy) Keeble, Charlie (Beverly) Campbell, Melanie and Tiffany Elder; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. Several nieces, nephews along with many friends with several of them being his #1, also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Joel Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at Benton Memorial Gardens. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Benton, TN.
