Paul Zartman Snyder

Paul Zartman Snyder, 89, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Skyridge Medical Center. He was born in Shamokin, PA to the late Walter E. and Jennie Knerr Snyder on July 4, 1925. He later moved with the family to Baltimore, MD where he was graduated from Southern High School. Paul served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, and attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC. He received his BS Degree from California Coast University, Santa Anna, CA. He was employed for 35 years with Electro-Motive Division of General Motors Corp. in Maryland and California. Upon early retirement, he spent several years serving as Interim Pastor for churches in Montana, Oregon and Alaska as a member of the Mission Service Corp. of the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. He was licensed to preach August 7, 1983 by the First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park, CA. He was ordained by Zion Baptist Church of Benton, TN on July 9, 1995 and served as pastor there for nine years, retiring in February, 2004. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Benton, TN where he had been a Sunday School Teacher and had formerly served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mae Arthur Snyder, his second wife Mildred Bramlett Snyder and sister, Ruth I. Kitzig. He is survived by his wife, Nell Phillips Snyder; daughters, Susan Snyder Yates of Benton, TN, Katy Snyder, Moreno Valley, CA and his sons, Walter (Joanne) Snyder of Newport Beach, CA, Gregory (Joyce) Snyder of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Kelli Snyder, Tonia Snyder, Caleb Snyder, Amy Yates, Jordan Yates, Cherie Arellano, and Trisha (Jorge)Carrasco; four great granddaughters, Londyn, Harper, Madison and Jamie Lynn; one great grandson, Lennox; stepchildren, Gayle (Michael) Phillips Pritchard, Jack F. (Julie) Phillips; step grandchildren, Steve (Bene) Pritchard, Joshua (Jana) Phillips, Gramm Phillips and Mason Phillips; four step-great grandchildren; Sister: Jean (Allen)Tate, of Silver Springs, Md., Brothers: David (Shirley) Snyder, of Hanover, Pa.,Danny (Pat) Snyder, of Bailtmore, Md. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Benton, TN with Reverend Edward Earl and Dr. Robbie Speights officiating. Interment will follow at Benton Memorial Gardens. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Benton, TN.
