Ruby Lewis Martin, 92, of Benton, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. She was a member of Old Ocoee Baptist Church for over 38 years. Ruby was also a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. At the recent Polk County High School Alumni Banquet of 2013 she was the oldest living graduate in attendance. She graduated from Polk County High School in 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Martin; parents, James Oliver "Boss" Lewis and Iola Clemmer Lewis; and brothers, Clifford, Claude, Boyd and Millard Lewis. Ruby is survived by her sister, Catherine Freeman of Benton; and several nieces and nephews, Shirley McDaniel and Bobby Lewis, both of Cleveland, Lena Mae Vaughn and Wilma Parrott, both of Charlotte, NC, O.J. Lewis, David Sandy Lewis and Martha Casson, all of Benton, James Freeman and Robert Lewis, both of California, Ruth Wood of Ooltewah and David Lewis of Texas. Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2013 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend David Qualls officiating. Interment will follow in Benton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
