MaryEtta Gross Dotson, 85, a life long resident of Benton, passed away, Friday, February 22, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. She was of a member of First Baptist Church of Benton. She enjoyed many sports including basketball, softball and camping and hiking as a girl scout leader. She participated in Senior Olympics and was instrumental in starting The Ramp Tramp. She was a lifetime member of the Alamande Hall because of her clogging expertise and taught this to many students. She was a member of Benton/Ocoee/Ducktown chapters of the Eastern Star for 67 years and was an 11 time Worthy Matron. She also played basketball for Tennessee Wesleyan Collage. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford Dotson, Lans McKenzie Gross and Lloyd Rogers, Jr. and siblings, Parks B. Baker, James N. Baker and Ruth Gaddis. She is survived by her children, Margaret G. Whaley and husband, Mark of Ocoee and Alton D. Rogers and wife, Barbara of Cleveland; six grandchildren, Alton Rogers, Jr. of Beckley, WV, Mark E. Rogers of Benton, Emily Rogers, of Cleveland, Tara Miller of Cleveland, Lauren Whaley of Ocoee and Kristen Whaley of Ocoee; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joy Lou White of Hillsboro, NC and Helen Baker of Severn, MD; special friends, J.P. Moorhouse and Beverly Rogers. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Harold Firestone officiating. Interment will follow in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the funeral home.
