George Eugene Rogers

April 30, 1924 — January 21, 2013

George (Bunk) Eugene Rogers, 88, a lifelong resident of Benton, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013 at the family residence. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. Before his retirement he was a contractor for Bell South. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Rogers and his parents, George Oliver Rogers and Mary Moore Rogers; sisters, Eula Bramlett and Jane Evans; brothers: Bennie Rogers, Ray Rogers and John Woodrow Rogers. Survivors include his children: Gena Rymer and husband, Bruce, Gary Rogers, Glenn Rogers and wife, LaMeesa all of Benton, Kathy Silvers and husband, William of Old Fort; grandchildren: Carmen and Randy Ray, Rachel Cross, Chris and Nicole Rogers, Emily Silvers, Jessica Silvers, Marina Rogers, Samuel Rogers, Amos Rogers, Oliver Rogers and Molly Rogers; great-grandchildren: Michael Ray, KayLeigh and Miguel Gomez, Carlee Cross, Emma and Noah Rogers; two sisters: Mary Bramlett and Jo Stewart both of Benton; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Zion Baptist Church with Reverend David Peters, Reverend Jerry Campbell, Reverend W.L. Shipman, and Reverend Kinzel Hooker officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. His family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service. Memorial may be made to Zion Baptist Church.
