Walter Earl Presley, 83, of Benton, passed away Friday, January 20, 2012 at a local hospital. He was born and raised in Mobile, AL. He and his young family moved to Cleveland in 1954, when Bowater Paper Corp. was built, where he retired in 1991 after 37 years of service. He served proudly in the United States Marines during World War II. He was also a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed gardening and family gatherings. Although he chose a simple lifestyle, he was a very generous husband, father and papaw. He was the son of the late Hubert & Willie Mae Presley. He was preceded in death by his son, Eddie Presley and granddaughter, Stephanie Presley. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Poston Presley; four children and their spouses, Danny and Sandra Presley of Charleston, Perry and Jane Presley of Charleston, David and Kay Presley of Riceville, and Patricia and Jackie Stanfield of Cleveland; grandchildren, Jennifer Aaron, Tim Presley, Steven Presley, Mandy Bowman, Tiffany Chambers, Rodney Trentham, Zachary Stanfield, Brandi Presley, T.D. Presley, Taylor Presley, and Kylie Presley; sisters, Juanita Lucas of Mobile, AL and Peggy Horstman of Pensacola, FL; 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Ed Eldredge officiating. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
