Billy E. Calhoun, 72, of Benton, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at his residence. He was retired from Marglen Carpet Manufacturing where he worked in the maintenance department. He was owner/ operator of a school bus with Polk County Schools and also was employed in their maintenance department. Mr. Calhoun was also director of the Civil Defense in Polk County for several years and a charter member of the Polk County Rescue Squad. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Donnie Bates Calhoun and daughter, Deborah Lynn Calhoun. He is survived by his wife, Janice Calhoun of Benton; children, Kandice Foote and husband, William of Mableton, GA, Kevin Calhoun and wife, Jennifer of Rome, GA, Terry Calhoun and wife, Becky of Benton, Billy Calhoun, Jr. and wife, Lori of Dalton, GA, Byron Calhoun of Dawnville, GA and Robin Parsons and husband, Rusty of Georgetown; 17 grandchildren, Andrew Baxter, Krystal Wooden, Kristopher Calhoun, Casey Calhoun, Shelby Calhoun, Alecia Hunt, Daniel Hunt, Jacob Hollis, Gracie Calhoun, Joseph Calhoun, Chadd Foote, Chasse Foote, Camronn Foote, Ciearra Foote, Amber Parsons and Matt Pitman; five great grandchildren, Noah and Austin Wooden, Braylon Calhoun, Alyssa Foote and Cheyenne Rosas; sisters, Barbara Bishop, Joyce Earwood and husband, Floyd, Jennie Dixon and husband, Charles and Pat Goins and husband, Larry, all of Cleveland; brothers, Virgil Calhoun, Jr. and Mildred Hooper of Cleveland and Jackie Calhoun and wife, Donna of Benton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2011 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend A. C. Cooper officiating. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Benton Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
