Jackie Eugene Swanson

Jackie Eugene Swanson, 77, of Benton, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at his residence. He was retired from the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Swanson Sr. and Wilma Gibson Dale; son, Jackie Swanson, Jr.; and daughter, Cindy Swanson. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Augustine Price Swanson of Benton; son, Mark Swanson and wife, Shelia of Cleveland; daughter, Tinia Martin and husband, Allen of Benton; grandchildren, Jesse Swanson and Jake Swanson, both of Etowah, Mathew Swanson and Joseph Swanson, both of Germantown, NC, Travis Clark of Cleveland and Tiffany Martin, Kimberly Martin, Jill Martin and Brandy Swanson, all of Benton; great grandchildren, Joseph and Joshua Gaskill of Benton, Dakota Edwards of Cleveland and Jackie Swanson III of Germantown, NC; brothers, Grover Swanson, Jr. of Reliance and James "Red" Swanson of Madisonville; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Swanson; cousins, Betty and Lester Spicer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Bennie Watson and the Reverend David Bowers officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery with Jeff Swanson, Jerry Dale Swanson, Cody Swanson, Joe Price, Jesse Swanson and Jake Swanson serving as pallbearers. Jamie Swanson will serve as an honorary pallbearer. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
