Dewey Greenwood, 77, a resident of Benton, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 in a local hospital. He retired as a truck driver and was a veteran of the Tennessee National Guard. He loved to fish and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmitt and Anna Thomason Greenwood. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Greenwood of Benton; daughter, Kayla Craig and husband Jonathan of Benton; stepdaughter, Kristi Lawson of Ocoee; granddaughter, Allison Craig; special dog, Gizmo: several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: and several cousin. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 21, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Rick Woody and the Reverend Richard Chastain officiating. Interment will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Cookson Creek Cemetery with Lige Thomason, Johnny Thomason, Roy Thomason, Ernest Craig, Ernie Craig and Robert Craig serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
