Dorothy A. Davis

Dorothy Adelaide Gilbert Davis, age 95, of Conasauga, Tennessee passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010 at The Lantern Alzheimer's Facility in Collegedale, TN. Mrs. Davis was born in the historic Hildebrand Home on the Ocoee River. She is the fourth daughter of John A. and Nora Gilbert. A life long resident of Polk County TN Mrs. Davis graduated from Polk County High School in 1933. She attended Middle Tennessee Teachers College, MTSU, for one year, taught school for almost 2 years before marrying W.I. "Buster" Davis on August 14, 1937. They eventually moved to Conasauga, TN to the family farm where they lived for most of their lives, raising four children. Mrs. Davis possessed a natural love for nature and learning. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and wife, always a kind word and gentle spirit. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two infant sons, brother, Bill Gilbert, sisters, Pauline Gilbert, Hazel Humphrys, Adeline Lillard, Alice Sheidler. Mrs. Davis is survived by daughter, Ann Marie Davis Harris (Kenneth), sons, John Davis (Judy), Douglas Davis (Jo Anne), Joe Davis (Judy), seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Ocoee, TN. Internment will follow in the church cemetery. Michael Davis, Andrew Harris, Brad Davis, Lincoln Young, Greg Lusk, Pete Nieodemus will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shiloh Baptist Church Building Fund. Higgins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
