Mary Ellen Witt, 80, a resident of Benton, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the family residence. She was retired from American Uniform. She was a member of Benton United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Florence Johnson Runion; son, Brian Hall; brothers, Langston E Runion, James Vencil Runion, John P. Runion and Frederick G. Runion; and sisters, Blanche Deal, Christine Spurling, Marlie Jean Hopkins and Mae Louise Runion. She is survived by her loving husband, Matt Witt of Benton; sister, Aleece Kimsey of Turtletown; stepson, Mike Witt of Benton; stepdaughter, Debbie Brannon of Benton; grandchildren, Brandi Hall, Jason and Krystal Hall, Shelly and Jared Joy, Michael and Allie Witt, Tyler Brannon and Tanner Brannon; seven great grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Witt and wife, Irene of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Carolyn Guerry and husband, John of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2010 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Betsy Switzer and the Reverend Don Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow in Benton Memorial Gardens with grandsons serving as pallbearers and the Benton Lions Club serving as honorary pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the funeral home prior to the service.
