Roy (Dick) Elmer Burns, 81, a resident of Benton passed away November 23, 2010 at the family home. He was a member of Old Ocoee Baptist Church. Mr. Burns was employed for over 55 years at Simpson Construction and Simpson Bridge Company, where he was respected for his strong work ethic. He enjoyed his retirement years working around his farm. Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Burns, beloved grandfather, George M. Burns; sisters: Dorothy Day and Pauline Qualls and brother, Glenn Burns. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary M. Burns of Benton; daughters and sons-in-law: Darla and Larry Jenkins of Delano; Rhonda and Darrell Morgan of Cleveland and Joda and Greg Clark also of Cleveland; grandchildren: Nathan Morgan, Emily Morgan, Caroline Clark and Natalie Clark all of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Mr. Burns' great nephew, Pastor Steve Ross officiating. Interment will be on Friday, November 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
