Glenn A. Burris

September 30, 1939 — April 28, 2010

Glenn A. Burris, 70, of Benton, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family after a 14 month courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He graduated from Calhoun High School in 1957. He retired from Bowater with 41 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Benton. He was an avid golfer, playing almost daily at Chatata Valley Golf Club. He was very active with the Polk County Democratic Party. He was preceded in death by his by his parents, Harvey and Pauline Shoemaker Burris. He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Burris; children, Carol Ann Yates and husband, Randy and Rodney Burris, all of Benton and Mark Burris and wife, Bridgett of Cleveland; grandchildren, Rachel and Greg Minardo of Knoxville, Tiffany and Chris Harris of Decatur, Rodney G. Burris of Benton and Mollie and Bennett Burris of Cleveland; great granddaughters, Madelyn, Gracie and Katelyn Harris of Decatur; brother, Vernon Burris and wife, Katherine of Calhoun; brother-in-law, Wendall Guinn and wife, Jane of Atlanta, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Benton with the Reverend Robbie Speights and the Reverend Scott Linginfelter officiating. Interment will be Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Benton Memorial Gardens with Stan Guinn, Paul Guinn, Matthew Guinn, Jeff Bowling, Steve Medley and Eddie Geren serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be James Thompson, Mike Weeks, Don Raines and his buddies at the Chatata Valley Golf Course. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service, along with a balloon release. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. The family requests that memorials be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Chattanooga, 200 Central Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37403.
