Clyde Earl Dills, 85, a resident of Benton Station Community, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 in a Chattanooga hospital. He loved camping and was an avid fisherman. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He retired from Bendix. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Stars. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Burris Dills; parents, Sam William Dills and Lydia Reid Dills; sisters, Pauline Smith Lemons and Gladys Ownbey; and brother Ray Dills. He is survived by his children, Linda Bradshaw, Harold "Pete" Dills and Roy Dills, all of Benton Station Community; 8 grandchildren, Misty Johnson of Georgetown, Alex Morrison of Charleston, Mindy Caldwell and husband, Danny of Cleveland, Marietta McFalls of Chatsworth, GA, Sam Gary Hayes of Benton Station, Brandy Wilcox and husband, Allen of Benton Station, Cathy Dills of Mooreshill, IN and Jerry Dills of Fresno, CA; 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Joe Hatcher officiating. Interment will follow in Benton Memorial Gardens with military honors. Allen Wilcox, David Sullivan, Joseph Johnson II, Clarence Morrison, Sam Gary Hayes and Alex Morrison will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
