James Birch Baker

October 23, 1918 — January 15, 2010

James Birch Baker, 91, a lifelong resident of Polk County, passed away Friday, January 15, 2010, in a local nursing facility. He received the Purple Heart during his service in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a life time member of VFW Post 7974 and DAV chapter. He was of the Baptist faith. His parents, Marvin and Ida Belle Rogers Baker, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee Baker, and sisters: Velma Baker Clark and Kate Baker Clark. He is survived by one son, Jimmy L. Baker of Chattanooga; three grandchildren: Jessica Parson, Stephanie Baker and Alex Baker; and one great-grandson, Adley James Parson. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 18, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Jasper Woody officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Old Benton Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 1 - 2 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
