Janie E. Ashe Byers, 90, a native of Tellico Plains and a resident of Benton for the past 45 years, went home to be with her Savior on Sunday, December 20, 2009. She was a member of Benton Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey F. Byers; five grandchildren; parents, James Henry Harris and Laura Ellen Newman Harris; five brothers; and four sisters. She is survived by eleven children, three sons, Bobby Ashe and wife, Peggy of Chatsworth, GA, Dennis Ashe and wife, Geneva of Old Fort, Daryl Byers and wife, Susan of New Mexico and eight daughters, Betty Jean Cross and husband, Ray of Benton, Kathleen Blankenship and husband, Charles of Riceville, Peggy Miller and husband, Jim of Niota, Edith Byers of Cleveland, Elizabeth Mooney and husband, Ralph of Dalton, GA, Jewell Rayburn of Benton, Alene Young and husband, Charlie of Tellico Plains and Sheila Byers of Benton; 21 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 16 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home of Benton with the Reverend Jerry Herron and the Reverend David Ashe officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Old Ocoee Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 at the funeral home prior to the service.
