Jessie Elizabeth Godfrey Ward

Jessie Elizabeth Godfrey Ward, age 93, a lifelong resident of Polk County, passed away Friday, March 30, 2007 in an Etowah hospital. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Greasy Creek. She was the daughter of the late James William Godfrey and Lena Stepp Godfrey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Rob) Ward; granddaughter, Shannon Ward; grandson, Todd Brooks; great grandson, Chris Brackett; brothers: Bart Godfrey and Haskel Godfrey.

She is survived by her children: Irene Brown of Benton, J.R. ( Jr. ) Ward and wife, Dot of Cleveland, Shirley Powers and husband, Bob of Benton, Coy Ward and wife, Joyce of Etowah, Ronnie Ward and wife, Mavis of Benton, Glenda Burnette and husband, Ken of Chattanooga, JoAnn Brooks and husband, Trony of Old Fort; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; sister, Sudie Walker; and half brother, Browning Thomas and wife, Virginia of Ocoee and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Green officiating. Interment will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery in Benton. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
