John Woodrow Rogers

John Woodrow Rogers, age 90, a resident of the Zion Community in Benton, passed away Monday, May 8, 2006 at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Polk County and was a member of Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over fifty years. Before his retirement, he was a contractor for Bell South. His parents, George and Mollie Moore Rogers, preceded him in death as well as two brothers: Bennie Rogers and Ray Rogers, and two sisters: Eula Bramlett and Jane Evans.

He is survived by his wife, Robbie Willson Rogers of Benton; four children and their spouses: Wilson and Judy Rogers of Benton, Joan and Fred Bryson of Cleveland, Danny and Judy Rogers of Benton, and Tim and Sheila Rogers also of Benton; twelve grandchildren and spouses: Brian Rogers, Russell and Teresa Rogers, Leslie and Chris Peak, Michelle and Jeff Ward, all of Benton, Freddie and Karen Bryson of Cleveland, Cheryl and Ian Lyles of Alexandria, VA, Ann Rogers, Denise and Kenny Longley, Michael and Michelle Rogers, all of Cleveland, Mark and Elisha Rogers of Etowah, Daniel Rogers and Ashleigh Rogers, both of Benton; fifteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Bramlett, and Jo Stewart and husband Bill, all of Benton; one brother, Eugene Rogers and wife Martha of Benton; and numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Sherry Waldrop.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Snyder and Reverend Kurt Benson officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Cemetery with the release of a flock of white doves concluding the service. Mr. Rogers' grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

His family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Baptist Church and also one hour prior to service at the church on Thursday.
