Noel Eugene (Gene) Phillips, 75, a resident of Old Fort, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2007 in a local hospital. He was graduated of the class of 1950 from Murray County High School. He was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, a song leader and a preacher. He was retired from Ben Milen Tire Company. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Phillips was the son of the late James Phillips and Theresa Horton Phillips; and was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jo Milen Phillips; daughter, Carla Jean Phillips; brothers: Taft Phillips, Joseph Phillips, Edd Phillips and Harvey Phillips; sisters, Lena Phillips, Jessie Phillips, Nancy Hannah, Melvarene Phillips, Margaret Phillips, Arlene Bowers and Mozelle Birchfield.
He is survived by his daughter and spouse: Terri and Tim Lynch of Benton, TN; two sons: Tracy Phillips and wife, Laina and Tim "Bum" Phillips all of Old Fort, TN; grandsons: Will, Luke and Seth Phillips all of Old Fort, TN, Blake and Alex Lynch of Benton, TN; in-laws: Ben and Dean Milen, Georgia Milen, Buddy and Margaret Swafford, Lamar and Judy Hooker, Billy and Karen Milen, Johnny and Brenda Milen; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Mountain Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Homer Roberts and Reverend Charles Cheatham officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
His family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Higgins Funeral Home.
