Gary Lawrence McPherson

Gary Lawrence McPherson, age 55, a resident of Old Fort, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2007. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. Mr. McPherson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he retired after 30 years of service during which time he received several awards, medals and commendations.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Irene and Jack Allen of Benton; special stepfather, Vance Bates of Benton; daughter, Jodi Sitzlar and husband, Walter of Decatur; stepchildren: Shannon Burchfield of SC, Stephanie Herron and Steven Gates both of Cleveland; grandchildren: Zachery and Savanna Sitzlar of Decatur; step grandchildren: Dalton Herron, and Taylor Shutt both of Cleveland; sister, Terri Bates and brother, Darrell Bates and wife, Kathy all of Benton; stepbrothers: Mark Allen and wife, Teresa of Delano, Jack Allen and wife, Wilma of Benton; stepsister: Mitzi Creekmore and husband, Ricky; a special companion, Sissy Herron of Old Fort; several aunts and uncles and one niece and one nephew.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Art Thronton officiating. Interment will follow in Benton Memorial Gardens with Aaron Bradford, Gary Waters, Jody Baxter, Sr., Ray Herron, Bobby Barker and Keith Beechy serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007 at the funeral home.
