Kay Biggs Maynor, a life long resident of Benton went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 13, 2008. She was born on January 29, 1943 and was of the Baptist faith. In 1964, she married her high school sweetheart, Frank. They were perfect for each other and they experienced married and family life to the fullest until his death in 1986. Together, they owned and operated the Maynor Equipment Company from 1977-1984.
Kay majored in education and earned a bachelor's degree from Tennessee Technological University in 1965 and a master's degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1988. She spent most of her teaching career with the Polk County School System. After taking several years off to stay home with her boys she returned to the classroom. Currently, she was the librarian at Polk County High. She truly wanted her students to succeed and she inspired several to pursue careers in education.
She was an avid reader and she created beautiful works of cross-stitch. She loved collecting antiques and Blue Ridge pottery. Each piece in her collection had a story-she could tell you when and where she bought it, who was with her, and how much she paid for it. She also enjoyed traveling.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Monte Maynor, her parents, Ralph and Louise Biggs, her brothers, Tom Biggs and Boyd Biggs.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Marc and Kimberly Maynor of Kingsport, Matt and Dawn Maynor of Gainesville, GA. She was the proud and loving Gram of Meg and Cade of Kingsport and Melayna, Maddux and McCall of Gainesville. She was also especially close to her sister-in-law, Rosemary Biggs of Bloomfield, IN and her niece, Julie Biggs Hendricks of New Braunfels, TX, both of whom shared her love of antiques and Blue Ridge pottery and with whom she traveled to England in 2006. She is also survived by many cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2008 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with her son Matt Maynor officiating. Interment will follow in Benton Memorial Gardens with a white dove release concluding the service.
Her family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
