Curtis Runny Humphries, 58, a resident of Cleveland and a former resident of Michigan, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2008 at his home. He was a member of Mt Olive Ministries. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp.
Curt has been involved in deaf ministry for more than 30 years. He ministered to Deaf children, youth, and adults through camps, Runny's Recreation, Bible studies, and various other mentoring opportunities. He also taught sign language at Lee University and was one of the founders of Lee's Deaf Ministry Association. He ran 17 full marathons, completed a triathlon, and competed in a Transplant Olympics representing Team in Training, Leukemia Society, after having had a bone marrow transplant in 1997. He most recently was involved in establishing a deaf community center, Bible school, and education program in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Mr. Humphries was the son of the late Lother Lee Humphries and Bertha Geneva Patterson Humphries and was also preceded in death by his brothers: Charles Humphries, William Humphries and Raymond Humphries.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Humphries of Cleveland; children: Letisha Leise, Amy Humphries, Brandon Humphries and Kimber Humphries; grandchildren: Kelsey, Mathew and Emiler Naughton, Cameron and Caitlyn McGriff; siblings: Margie Wasion, Milton Humphries, Edward Humphries, Grady Humphries and Aaron Humphries.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2008 at Mount Olive Ministries with Pastor Gary Sears officiating.
