Gladys R. Higgins, age 80, a lifelong resident of Old Fort, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2006 in a Chattanooga hospital following a brief illness. She was a member of Boanerges Baptist Church for a number of years. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Her parents, Arthur and Fannie vest, preceded her in death, as well as her husband, J. C. (Woodrow) Higgins, brother, Bill Vest, sister, Sue Chadwick, and grandson, Tony Maples.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Don Maples of Cleveland; sons and daughters-in-law: J. C. and Linda Higgins, Fred and Pat Higgins, all of Cleveland, Tom and Ruth Higgins, Mark and Renee Higgins, all of Old Fort, and Terry and Rebekah Higgins of High Point, NC; one brother and sister-in-law, Jewell and Janice Vest of Colorado; sisters: Jean Smith of Marietta, GA, and Sarah Green of Chatsworth, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary and Buck Crisp, and Sally and Charles Parker, all of Florida; granddaughter and spouse, Bridgette and Les Conner of Cleveland; grandsons: Don Maples, Jr. and Mikel B. Higgins, both of Cleveland, and Jacyn Higgins and wife Robin of Old Fort; great grandchildren: Caroline and Charlie Conner of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Green officiating. Interment will follow in Dill Cemetery with grandsons and friends serving as pallbearers.
Her family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
