James David Godfrey, 66 a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2007 at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was a deacon of Charity Baptist Church in Cleveland and was retired from Combustion Engineering of Chattanooga. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ruth Bates Godfrey formerly of Benton.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Cochran Godfrey; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Beth Godfrey; daughters and sons-in-law: Rhonda and Holden Lail of Maryville, Lisa and Raymond Ellis of Cleveland, Crystal and Sheldon Speares of Ootlewah; grandchildren: Alex Pyle of Maryville, Jacob Ellis, Caleb Godfrey and Collin Godfrey all of Cleveland, Presley Speares and Hudson Speares of Ooltewah; brothers and sisters-in-law: Danny and Carolyn Godfrey and Larry and Janice Godfrey all of Benton, Ricky and Karen Godfrey of Delano and Jerry and Vickie Godfrey of Maryville; sisters: Karen Godfrey of Benton and Jayne Godfrey of Tampa, FL and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Charity Baptist Church in Cleveland with the Reverend Carl Haulk and Jimmy Plumley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Benton with Jerry Fain, Jeff Cochran, Tony Cochran, Nathan Gargala, Russell Qualls and Jerome Plumley serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
His family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Higgins Funeral Home and from 12 - 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
