Mary Jane Roark Benton German, age 75, a life long resident of Benton Station, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2007 in a local hospital. She was a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church in Benton and was attending the Westwood Baptist Church.
Mrs. German was the daughter of the late John Burke Roark and Pearl Lee Cox Roark and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Rhea Benton.
She is survived by her husband, James (Dub) German of Benton Station; daughter Ruth Ann Shamblin and husband, William Scott Shamblin of Cleveland; son, John Robert Benton of Cleveland; step-children: Ronnie German and wife Ann German of Old Fort, Barry German and wife, Stefanie German of Meigs County, Pam Hindman and husband, Wally Hindman of Chattanooga; three grandchildren: Chris Shamblin of Cleveland, Nick Benton of East Ridge, Jill Benton of Pompano Beach, Florida; step-grandchildren: Drew German of Old Fort, Laura German of Old Fort, Hollie German of Old Fort, Courtney Glass of Tampa, Florida, Caleb Hindman of Chattanooga, Clay Hindman of Chattanooga, Tiffany German of Alcoa, Derrick German of Cleveland and Todd Swafford of Riceville; great-granddaughter, Baylee Porter of Alcoa; two sisters: Edna Burke Hallmark of Flint, Michigan and LeAnn Scarbrough and husband Bill Scarbrough of Dallas, Texas. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Benton Station Baptist Church with Reverend W.L. Shipman and Reverend David Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the Benton Station Baptist Church Cemetery a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Her family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Higgins Funeral Home and also from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service.
