John King Daugherty

January 14, 1918 — February 26, 2007

John King Daugherty, 89, a life long resident of Benton Station Community, passed away Monday, February 26, 2007 at the family residence. He was a life member of Mt. Hermon Methodist Church until it closed and was a member of Chilcutt Methodist Church where he had taught Sunday school. He was a member of the Old Timers Band and had also made and played the violin having made numerous beautiful instruments and was affectingly known as the "fiddle man". He was a retired watch maker of jewelry where he was employed with Pinion Jewelry Gibsons and Maryville Jewelry.

Mr. Daugherty was the son of the late John King Daugherty and Verluna Philpot Daugherty and was also preceded in death by a sister, Margie Daugherty Hunt, brothers: Gordon Daugherty and Roy Daugherty and a grandson, Joshua Sherill.

Survivors include his wife Ruth Hunt Daugherty of Charleston; two sons: Thomas Lee Daugherty and wife, Terri Daugherty of Tullahoma, TN and John Michael Daugherty of Charleston; grandchildren: Jennifer Zimecki, Jason Smith, Julia Daugherty, Jesse Daugherty and Joy Daugherty; great-grandchildren, Nichol Zimecki and Logan Zimecki; brothers-in-law: Kenneth Hunt and Jerry Hunt; sisters-in-law: JoAnn Park and Edna Daugherty; nieces: Kathleen Vore, Gladys Farris, Mary Moore and Frances Carson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Chilcutt Methodist Church with Reverend Danny Arp officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Higgins Funeral Home.
