Dora Allene Cummings

Dora Allene Mathis Wilson Cummings, 91, a resident of Benton, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the family residence. She was a member of the Old Ocoee Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cummings was the daughter of the late John Henry Mathis and Pearl Ballew Mathis and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Wilson, Sr. and her second husband, Arthur Cummings; three sisters: Ruby Burns, Aretta Link and Margie Talley; two brothers: Reverend A.L. Mathis and Junior Mathis; one great-grandson.

She is survived by her two children and spouses: Opal and Art Thornton and E.W. and Mary Wilson all of Benton; three step children and spouses: Linda and Howard Lynch, Judy and Paul Wilson and Newell and Earnestine Cummings; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Alpha Whitmire of Signal Mountain; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2008 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Art Thornton, Reverend Terry Daniels and Reverend David Qualls officiating. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2008 at the Old Ocoee Cemetery with Terry Whitmire, Larry Whitmire, Justin Conners, Douglas Cogswell, Henry Epperson and Bo Lewis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Saylor and Josh Cain. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

Her family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the funeral home prior to the service.
