Louis "Cy" Bryan Culpepper, 90, a lifelong resident of Benton passed away Thursday, January 1, 2009 at a local hospital.
Mr. Culpepper was a member of the First Baptist Church of Benton, where he taught Sunday school and served as deacon for 27 years and church treasurer for 17 years. He was a member of the Lions Club and the local VFW. He served as the Assessor of Property in Polk County. Mr. Culpepper served as Staff Sergeant with the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dolph Culpepper and Maude Kilpatrick Culpepper; brothers, Frank and Fred Culpepper; sisters, Ruth C. Brown, Dora Mae Culpepper and Mary G. Green.
He is survived by his wife, Dovie Bain Culpepper; his son, Bryan and his wife Denise Culpepper of Memphis, TN.; grandchildren, Brad Culpepper of Deltona, FL. and Kelly Lee and husband Jason of Memphis, TN.; great grandchildren, Andrew Culpepper of Deltona, FL. and Jackson Lee of Memphis, TN.; sister Etheleen Harribson; special care givers, Linda and Philip Culpepper; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Benton with Reverend Robbie Speights and Reverend James Hickey officiating. Interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 in the Benton Memorial Gardens with the deacons of the First Baptist Church serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be men's Sunday School class of First Baptist Church of Benton. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the services.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Benton prior to the service.
