John David "Red" Adams, 91, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 23, 2009 at his home in Benton. He was born August 6, 1917 and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as Church Superintendent for several years. He was retired from the State of Tennessee Road Department and World Carpets. He was also a self-employed pulpwood owner and a World War II veteran.
Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his parents Isaac and Mellie Adams, his first wife Jessie "Tootsie" Swafford Adams, grandsons Jason Cain and Rodney Adams, brother Emmitt Adams and sisters Zona Lyle and Aussie Jones.
He his survived by his loving wife of 57 years and caregiver Christine Goble Adams, daughters and son-in-laws: Earlene and Jon Lummus, Kay Adams and Andy Parton, Kathy and David Godfrey; one son and daughter-in-law David and Kathy Adams; grandchildren: Travis and Kristine Godfrey, Melinda Godfrey, Richard White and Keri Adams and great-grandchildren: Hunter and Madison Godfrey, Caleb Cain, Alexander and Benjamin Caywood and Dustin Shelton; brother-in-law and sister-in-laws Robert (Charlie) and Ann Goble and Naomi Goble and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 8 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2009 in the chapel at Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Campbell officiating. Interment will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2009 in Oak Grove Cemetery in Benton. A white dove release will conclude the service. His beloved grandchildren Travis Godfrey, Melinda Godfrey, Richard White, Keri Adams, Caleb Cain and Dustin Shelton will serve as honorary pallbearers.
His family will receive friend from 6-8 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2008 at the funeral home prior to the service.
