Abie Hammons 86, of Reliance, departed this life peacefully on March 10, 2022, at a local healthcare facility. He was born and raised in Springtown, Tennessee, to the late Riley Benson and Minnie Rymer Hammons.
Abie retired after 45 dedicated and faithful years as Bridge Inspector from the State of Tennessee. A few of his fondest memories included hunting and attending softball tournaments until he was no longer able to.
In addition to his parents, Riley B. and Minnie R. Hammons, he was preceded by his devoted wife of 43 years, Gladys Lindner Hammons; brothers, Wayne Hammons, Judge Frank Hammons, Sr., and L.B. “Casey” Hammons; sisters-in-law, Zelda Rogers Hammons and Charlotte Lindner Taylor; brother-in-law, Hoyt Lindner.
Left to cherish the many memories include his loving children, Judith (Kim) Frady, Heath Hammons, and Jaime (Travis) Rice; five grandchildren, Jonathan (Abbey) Frady, Kelley Frady (John Prater), Matty Hammons, Macy Hammons, and Morgan Rice; one great-grandchild, Lovie Frady. Numerous extended family members and a host of friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home, with Reverend Robby Hatcher officiating. Interment will follow at Lindner Cemetery in Reliance.
Family and friends will gather from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
