Charles Winston Harbison, 91, of Benton Station, TN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at a local healthcare facility.
Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and touched many people throughout his life. He was a 1948 graduate of Polk County High School. He retired after 30 years of service from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. Charles was a faithful member of Benton United Methodist Church and dearly loved his Church family. He was a lifelong and proud member of the Polk County Community.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Alice Green Harbison; his parents, George Winston and Ella Eaves Harbison; one brother, Winfred Harbison; and special sisters-in-law, JoAnn Finnell and Vera Greene.
Charles is survived by sons, Steve (Rita) Harbison and Chris (Louise) Harbison; grandchildren, Allyson Hannah (Kyle Miller), Lindsey (Jason) Surlas, Christen Harbison, Greer Harbison, Brown Harbison; great-grandchildren, Logan Brewer (Liz Simmons), Luke Hannah, Charlie Hannah, Chloe Surlas, Chase Surlas; step-granddaughters, Laura (Sean) McKinney and Lisa Inglis and their children, Ana Carden and Evan Inglis; step-granddaughter Aubrey Hannah Powell; nieces, Cynthia Harbison Johnstone and Karen Harbison Taylor; nephew, Joseph Harbison; brother-in-law W.A. (Joyce) Green, Jr.; special caregiver, Debbie Jones; and special friend, Ralph Bates. Several other special nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
A Celebration of Life graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at Benton Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Dave Whaley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Benton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 845, Benton, TN 37307 or Hospice of Chattanooga, 2145 Keith Street, Cleveland, TN 37312.
The family would also like to thank all the staff of Hospice of Chattanooga for providing excellent comfort and care in his final days.
