Doris Woods Owens, 97, of Concord/Farragut, departed this life on Friday, September 1, 2023, of natural causes.
She was born on February 17, 1926, in Concord, Tennessee to the late Walter Gordon and Ziza Welch Woods.
Throughout life, Doris was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Samuel Frazier Chapter, NSDAR since October 11, 1988. Over the years, she served as regent (2001-2004), vice regent (2010-2013) and registrar (1998-2010), as well as numerous other offices and chairmanships.
Dois was a member of the National Daughters of the American Revolution for over 30 years. She served the Farragut-Concord community in many ways over the years, including being involved in the establishment of the Farragut Museum and later becoming the museum’s director and has a “Doris Woods Owens Gallery’ at the museum. Earlier in her career, she was a teacher at Concord/Farragut where she was active in the production of many musicals that were held in the FHS Auditorium. Doris was also an Educator and Administrator in Miami, Florida until 1982 where many of you will remember her as the past Director of the Farragut Folklife Museum and as co-author of the book, “Images of America”, Concord-Farragut.
In addition to her parents, Walter Gordon, and Ziza Welch Woods, both class of 1916, she was preceded by her beloved husband, Charles S. Owens; daughter, Marta Lynne Owens Mills; brother, James Welch Woods, class of 1940.
Left to cherish the many memories include her loving daughter, Vickie (Gary) Keller of Delano, Tennessee; adored granddaughters, Hanna Mills Sims, and Hayley Mills; great grandson, Max Sims. A host of family and friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
