“Granny” Marjorie Estelle Johnson, 102, a lifelong resident of Polk County, passed away peacefully at her home, Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
She was born on February 13, 1919, to the late John H. and Mary Edna J. Johnson. “Granny” had a passion for quilting and was a member of the Polk County High School Band Boosters in 1989 and served as a proud member of the Wildcat Band for sixteen years. She was a devout Christian and was the oldest living member of Zion Baptist Church, which she attended regularly.
In addition to her parents, John H., and Mary Edna J. Johnson, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, E. A. Johnson; daughters, Glenda Teague, and Anita Givens; son, JD Johnson; brothers, WL Johnson, Eugene Johnson and Ray Johnson; sisters, Annie Hullender, Johnnie Fisher, Dimple Brock, Lillie Gurley and Bid Self; grandson, Marcus Evans.
Left to cherish the many memories include her beloved daughter, Bettie Anderson; sisters, Lois Bates and Sue Self; grandchildren, Cindy Green, Greg Evans, Byron Evans, Carmen Handy, Lennette O’Hern, Lori Tankersley and Misty Givens; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren. Several special nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and a host of friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021, at Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Hazelwood and Pastor Bruce Underwood officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Cemetery.
Family and friends will gather from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the Church.
