Jacqueline Gayle Childs, 71, of Georgetown, departed this life peacefully on September 23, 2024.
She was born on August 31, 1953, in Ringgold, Georgia, to the late Carl and Maybelle Beckler Teasley.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a long-time member of Cookson Creek Baptist Church and due to driving distance, she attended Burdette Church.
Throughout life, Mrs. Gayle retired after 40+ years of dedicated service with Hardwick Clothes. She enjoyed retirement and spent her days fishing with her husband, Sam, and enjoyed spending time with her family. One of her fondest memories was cooking for her family and enjoying meals surrounded by her family. Gayle never met a stranger and always had a kind word to everyone. She was an optimist to the core and could pick you up on your worst day while always having the best sense of humor.
In addition to her parents, Carl and Maybelle Beckler Teasley, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dewey Greenwood.
Left to cherish the many memories include her loving husband, Samuel “Sam” Childs; two daughters, Kristi Lawson (Tammy Ashcraft), and Kayla (Jonathan) Craig; stepchildren, Angie Ferguson (Harold Lewis), Adam (Terra) Childs, and Melina (Jonathan) Partin; one granddaughter, Allison Craig; siblings, Lat (Gail) Teasley, Glenda Wheeler, and Augusta “Gus” (Steve) Davis. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and step-grandchildren also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home of Benton, with Pastor David Evans officiating. A graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Cookson Creek Cemetery, with Jason Miller, Adam Childs, Keith McKenzie, Tommy Stokes, Lance Linville, and Spencer Childs serving as pallbearers.
Her family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
