Larry “Diddle” Lewis, 76, of Benton, departed this life peacefully, on January 10, 2023.
He was born on June 3, 1946, in Athens, Tennessee to the late Tup and Jane Padgett Lewis. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. Diddle loved his family and always put them first, while enjoying the simple things in life. One of his favorite things to do was to sit on the front porch with family, friends, and neighbors while cherishing every moment. He was always diligent, hard-working, and was a member of Iron Workers Local 704. He began his career with Everhart Steel Construction Company and Rust Engineering as a general foreman, which later led to him starting and successfully operating his own business, L&L Construction Company until his retirement in 2001. After retirement, Diddle enjoyed cattle farming with his son, Burr; and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Tup and Jane Padgett Lewis, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Oliver “Gene” Lewis, J.T. Lewis, Houston Lewis, Franklin Lewis, James “Jimmy” Lewis, Betty I. Lewis and Mary Ellen Lewis Moore.
Left to cherish the many memories include his best friend and loving wife of 54 years, Brenda Evans Lewis; beloved son, John “Burr” Lewis; cherished grandchildren, Larkin Lewis and Landri Lewis. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Cheatham officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Tommy McDonald, Mark Evans, Jason Pankey, Tim McClary, Greg Clayton, and Jody Rogers serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Howard Lynch, Steve Harbison, Jimmy Headrick and Roger “Mutt” Evans.
