Mary "Wanda" Bivens

Mary “Wanda” Bivens, 80, of Benton, departed this life peacefully on May 19, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 26, 1942, in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, to the late Kenneth L. and Lima Britton McCarter.  She was born and raised in Ball Play community in Monroe County, TN.  Wanda was of the Baptist Faith who loved the Lord and lived her life with the desire to please him, she also loved her family, friends and enjoyed her years as a housewife and Mother.

Wanda’s career was shortened by illness at the age of 47, she previously worked as a CNA at Bradley Health & Retirement Center and enjoyed taking care of all the patients she encountered.  Just like her mother, she had the God giving gift to have compassion in taking care of others.

In addition to her parents, Kenneth L. and Lima Britton McCarter, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus J. Bivens, whom she loved deeply; sister, Etta Lee Bivens.

Left to cherish the many memories include her beloved children, Mitchell (Regina) Bivens of Cleveland, TN., Cheryl (Charlie) Rider of Cleveland TN., Randall (Karen) Bivens of Ringgold, GA., and Donna (Richard) Sudderth of Nashville, TN., ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and brother, Jimmy McCarter of Tellico Plains, TN.  Several nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends also survive.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023, at Benton Memorial Gardens.
