Michael Gene Webb, 65, passed away at home in Tennga, Georgia, on November 4, 2022. Born on January 2, 1957, he was the first of three children of Fleatus “Pete” Williams Webb and Rena Sue Price Webb from Etowah, Tennessee.
Mike was involved in many activities during his years in Etowah, including construction, working on cars as a shade tree mechanic, hiking, listening to music, and enjoying the mountains of East Tennessee.
Mike attended McMinn Central High School, graduating with the class of 1975. During his high school years, Mike became interested in printing and graphic art design and, at the age of 16, obtained his first job in the printing world. Mike spent 48 years in this business, establishing a well-known reputation which took him to Gulf Shores, Alabama, Dalton, Georgia, Cleveland, Tennessee, and even Barcelona, Spain.
Mike loved to travel to places he had never been and especially loved to fly. He enjoyed driving unfamiliar roads, listening to the music of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Collective Soul, AC/DC, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and ZZ Top to name a few, just to see where the path would take him and what he could see while he was on the journey. His favorite thing to do in his spare time, however, was to share this life with his beloved wife, Joy, and their children, and grandchildren.
In the last five years, Mike dealt with health issues stemming from liver disease. The disease progressed quickly and this year Mike was hospitalized six different times. He fought valiantly but his unhealthy liver gave way to kidney disease and other health issues, which greatly diminished his life expectancy.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Sue Webb, of the Goodsprings community, and by his maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joy Fleming Webb, his children, Jonathan (Rebekah) Pierce of Riceville, and Joslyn (Blake) Jones of Cleveland, and by his “six pack”: grandchildren Elijah, Cadance, Mila, and Noah Pierce and Amelia and Niklaus Jones. Mike also leaves behind a sister, Sheila (Alan) England, and brother, Whitney (Melissa) Webb.
In lieu of a traditional wake and funeral service, Mike has requested to be cremated and to have a celebration service to commemorate the ultimate blessing of his new home in Heaven with his Heavenly Father. This celebration will take place on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Higgins Funeral Home, 6439 US Highway 411, Benton, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 pm, with the celebration service beginning at 4:30 pm.
Mike’s earthly life may have ended, but his heavenly life and celebration have only just begun. It truly is “well with my soul” and the family rejoices the fact that Mike has gained his heavenly body and is whole and healed.
