Nyokia Taylor Bishop was born on Christmas Eve, 1942, and departed for Heaven on June 25, 2020, where she was reunited with her parents, Homer and Lucille Burchfield Taylor; an infant brother; granddaughter, Gabrielle Bishop, and countless other loved ones.
Nyokia spent many happy years in the family grocery store (Bishop’s Superette), where she served her community with the generous heart, spirit, and humor well known to everyone who crossed her path. She was a friend, counselor, advisor, mentor, and confidante to many, and leaves this world better than she found it.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Bobby Bishop, Sr.; sister, Artie Gene Edgerton; brothers, William Taylor and Marc and Al Perry, and step-mother Yvonne Taylor; her children remain to carry her light in this world: Mark Bishop, Bobby Bishop, Jr., Kalin Marie Morris and daughter of her heart, Marti Hale, along with their spouses: Elisa Bishop, Charlotte (Susie) Bishop, Randy Morris, and Steve Hale. She will be forever missed by the next generation of her legacy: grandsons, Will Bishop, Taylor Andrew Morris, and Seth Bishop (Lauren Passmore) who carry lifetime memories of “Mamaw” and “Ma Nik” playing with them, reading storybooks, watching favorite movies, and filling their hearts with laughter and love.
A Celebration of Life graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Benton Memorial Gardens with Russell Bishop officiating. Terry Bishop, Chase Bishop, Kevin Newman, Will Bishop, Seth Bishop, and Taylor Andrew Morris will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
