Samuel "Boty" McClure

March 20, 1955 — January 26, 2022

Samuel “Boty” McClure, 66, of Benton, departed this life peacefully on Thursday, January 26, 2022.

He was born on March 20, 1955, in Fort Oglethorpe, GA., to Nellie Ruth and the late Samuel V. McClure.

Throughout life, Sam, was known for going above and beyond to help anyone in need.  A member of Benton Station Baptist Church, he strived for each of us to love one another as Jesus did at the Cross.  Having a gift for music, Sam played in a band for many years, playing at church, as well as being the headliner for the Earl Thomas Conley performance.  He was a graduate of Cleveland State with two degrees, Business Management and Engineering Systems Technology.  He was a proud veteran of the US Army, 82nd Airborne and later worked for Hardwick Stove, Bendix/Allied Signal for eighteen years. During the last few years, Sam would find every chance he could to play golf with his family.  A few of his fondest memories include the time spent at Ridgewood Golf Club also known as “The Goat Ranch” with his beloved family.  Aside from the time spent on the golf course, a fall Saturday meant Knoxville at Neyland Stadium while cheering on the Vols with his family.  In his spare time, woodworking became a hobby that lasted many years, and, in the summer, you could always find him with his feet in the sand, watching the ocean waves, and fishing off the pier.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Cynthia McClure; beloved father, Samuel V. McClure; grandson, Samuel Joshua McClure; sister, Joyce McClure; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Skipper; father-in-law, Charles Clementson, and brother-in-law, Mickey Redman.

Left to cherish the many memories include his beloved wife of forty-six years, Deborah Clementson McClure; loving children, Samuel Jason (Megan) McClure and Gina (Nathan) Thompson; cherished mother, Nellie McClure; adored grandchildren, Addicyn Thompson, Ayden Thompson, Rachel (Cody) Carmon, Cole McClure, Chase (Chelsi) Mull, Jacob (Faith) DeBerry, Sean DeBerry, Hope DeBerry, Juan (Rose) Cintora and five great grandchildren; father-in-law, Lester Skipper; siblings, Douglas (Misty) McClure and Gerry Redman;  Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home, with Reverend Robby Hatcher officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow at Benton Memorial Gardens with Nathan Thompson, Cole McClure, Sean DeBerry, Cody Carmon, Chase Mull, Dylan McClure, and Jordan Brewster serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ayden Thompson, Juan Cintora, and Jacob DeBerry

Family and friends will gather from 6:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022, and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
