William “Stanley” Wooten, 71, of Delano, departed this life peacefully on the morning of April 15, 2023, at his home.
He was born on May 7, 1951, in Athens, Tennessee, to the late Vernard and Betty Goble Wooten. Stanley was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a retired engineer of CSX Railroad of Etowah. Stanley has been a lifelong resident of Polk County, Tennessee and enjoyed reading, birdwatching, and hiking. He hiked the Appalachian Trail starting in Springer Mountain, Georgia and made it all the way to Pennsylvania.
In addition to his parents, Vernard, and Betty Goble Wooten, he was preceded in death by several beloved aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish the many memories include his loving wife of 42 years, Jane Thacker Wooten; beloved children; Anne (Kevin) Sorenson, Doug (Chelsea) Wooten, and Brittany (Nick) Poindexter; adopted son, Tyrone (Aundrea) Johnson; sisters, LaWenda Teague of Cleveland, and Reneé (David) Rollins of Cleveland; brothers, Dale (Carol) Key of Etowah and James (Martha) Wooten of Benton; nine grandchildren, Joel, Rebecca, Eli, Cainan, Luke, Elliott, Levi, Archer and Jacob; aunt, Naomi Goble of Cleveland. Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
Family and friends will gather from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
